Can someone tell me the benefits of a balance ball chair? I tried one out today and didn't see any problem in staying put. It seems to me that to be effective one would need to exert oneself. In other words it was no challenge at all. I had planned on buying one to use as my desk chair, but now I am not sure if I want to do that. I am already doing chore training at the gym. madbtmarvellous replied: "its to promote good back health many people that sit at their desk job all day complain of aching backs arms and legs. i have a ball at home and use it for exercise i think its a lot of fun and over a period of time helps to improve your posture. just imagine sitting at work on your ball chair bouncing as well as spinning when everyone is fidgeting because they're bum is getting numb and sore" Would a balance ball chair help me practice posting? I am wondering what sort of object other than a saddle and a horse(can't always get to one unless I ask a friend which is not often) to practice posting to develop those muscles.
Thanks. Greg B replied: "It won't help you with posting as such, but it will increase your core strength and help with balance in the riding position."
tuckermyhorse replied: "A ball like this will certainly help with strengthening your abs, and core, and would also help develop greater balance, but it would benefit you a lot more if you use just the ball without the chair.
You could also do some crunch sit-ups, and squats are excellent for your upper leg/thigh!!!

Meagan K replied: "You could improve your core, balance, and your position with this, but since it doesnt actually have a trotting stride it would be hard to practice posting, and you wouldnt get anywhere as far as working on being on the correct diagonal. But thats a cool balance ball you have found!"

I would do squats like was suggested earlier" Can anyone tell me about Balance Ball Chairs? Gaiam Balance Ball Chairs or Ergo Chairs. Can these chairs be purchased anywhere, other than online? Marty Wrin replied: "Although the balls are much more widely available, I believe that some of the specialty back stores carry the balance ball chairs. I don't recall the name of the store, just that it carries chairs and bedding specifically designed for the back."
